Joanne Elizabeth Martínez, Soprano

American soprano, Joanne Elizabeth Martínez, has been influenced by a rich musical, cultural and spiritual background.  Between the jazz and gospel soul of her birthplace in New Orleans;  the varied latin and creole spice of her Caribbean ancestral home; her Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch and Native American cultural heritage; as well as her Catholic upbringing, Jewish and Lutheran ancestors, and Methodist Church family; and in the capacity of various operatic roles where she has sung to various Celtic, Hindu, and other deities; Ms. Martínez has understandably developed quite the colorful playlist and repertoire.

Her mother made sure music was woven into her daughters' daily life from birth and introduced her to the violin at the tender age of four. Ms. Martínez grew up travelling the country to workshops, competitions and performances.  In addition to several awards, she was awarded the Principal Second Violinist position within the Gainesville Youth Orchestra and was the youngest of her group to win a coveted chair in the All State Orchestra before high school.  Although she discovered singing in elementary school, her love and affinity for singing was born when she joined the music program at Gainesville High School with Dr. Lynn Sandefur-Gardner. She distinguished herself as a soloist,  member of various ensembles, and in the role of The Minstrel in the school’s production of Once Upon A Mattress. She performed jazz standards, pop, rock and other repertoire as a guest artist throughout North Central Florida with Cathy DeWitt and other musical groups until moving to South Florida.

In Miami, Ms. Martinez rediscovered classical music and opera, and following more formal operatic training, she was accepted into the inaugural Advanced Role Study Program at Florida Grand Opera, the Palm Beach Opera Resident Artist Workshops and Educational Programs where she studied and performed the roles of Musetta (La Boheme) and Norina (Don Pasquale), under the direction of Maestro Anton Guadagno, Aprile Millo, Diana Soviero, and Bernard Uzan, Dr. Elizabeth Graham, Birgit Fioravante, Manny Perez, Kathy Kozac, Saffron Chung, and most recently with Dr. Nobleza Pilar, and the late Sergio Puig,

Her performances have been enjoyed  by audiences at Florida Grand Opera, Miami Lyric Opera, Naples Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Treasure Coast Opera, and Orchestra Miami, in roles in La bohème, La traviata, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Suor Angelica, L’elisir d’Amore, and Manon Lescaut, including a performance with Placido Domingo.

In the sacred and oratorio repertoire, Ms. Martínez has performed regularly as a featured soloist with Miami Oratorio Society, First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables, and guest soloist and section leader with various Churches, Temples, Synagogues throughout South Florida and beyond; Naples Bach Ensemble, Temple Israel High Holy Days Choir, and other special services, festivals and outreach performances.

In addition to her singing engagements, Ms. Martínez is a certified Universal Reiki Master, Holistic Healer through her music ministry, and a Universal Life Minister.  Ms. Martínez is Founder and President of Amici dell’Arte and Classical Artist Resource, and as such has produced countless concerts and events, raising thousands of dollars for survivors of natural disasters in Florida, The Caribbean, Central America, and Japan.  She makes her home in South Florida but returns to visit her Dutch Caribbean family as often as possible.
